Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) & Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Teacher Qualification Requirements
The following information is for those who wish to know exactly what will qualify them to teach for DCCCD/Dallas TeleCollege (DTC). There are three categories of courses: (1) Transfer, (2) Technical, and (3) Developmental.
Transfer Courses: Faculty who teach transfer courses must have a master's degree in the discipline (including 18 hours in the discipline) OR a master's degree and 18 hours in the discipline. (The key word is "discipline." If you are teaching psychology, for example, you must have 18 graduate hours in psychology.)
Technical Courses: Faculty who teach technical courses must have an AAS in the discipline and documented work experience OR a bachelor's degree in the discipline. (Copies of certifications, licenses, etc. are helpful.) If you are teaching auto body, you must have an AAS and work experience or a bachelor's in auto body.
Developmental Courses: Faculty who teach developmental courses must have the minimum of a bachelor's degree in the discipline and public school teaching experience (including teacher certification) OR a bachelor's degree in the discipline and at least six graduate hours in remedial education. If you are teaching developmental math, for example, you must have at least a bachelor's degree in mathematics and public school teaching experience OR six graduate hours in remedial education.
The DTC Dean reviews all credentials and works with Eastfield College who has final authority to approve credentials. The DCCCD has processes in place as outlined in its Policies and Procedures Manual that allow you to appeal to the Vice President of Instruction and the President, if you have concerns about interpretation.
Please note: Two sets of each registrar stamped and/or sealed original transcript must be sent directly from the college(s) you attended to the Dean of the Dallas TeleCollege. We cannot consider transcripts delivered directly by applicants as originals or those that stamp the envelope "released to student." We must have two of each for all college level work attempted and from each institution you attended. You must also provide an original application form to the Dean’s office along with any written statements validating previous work experience on company letterhead where technical work is used in lieu of the bachelor's degree.
