- What is the Dallas TeleCollege and how long has DCCCD been involved in distance learning?
Dallas TeleCollege is the online campus of the DCCCD, allowing students to take
classes or complete a degree online without ever setting foot on campus. We
produced our first television-based course back in 1972. In the 35 years that
have followed, this high quality courseware has continued to evolve and leverage
the latest innovations in technology and teaching theory.
- Can traditional and online courses be taken simultaneously?
Yes. In fact, most of our students take a mixture of online and classroom
courses. Regardless of the delivery method, you are still limited to 18 semester
credit hours (during Fall & Spring) without getting special permission.
- Are all the class assignments completed online, or will some of the content required in the classroom activities?
Courses offered by Dallas TeleCollege do not have any on campus requirements and
are designated on the course schedule as sections 9400-9999. Online courses
offered by other DCCCD colleges may require students to come to campus for some
activities such as testing.
- Will the course exams be included online?
Most courses include online exams, however some may require a paper exam be proctored (we can easily help you arrange that). Read your course syllabus for testing details.
- Is there a required scheduled time to be online daily?
Not usually, although some faculty members may require specific times for testing, exam reviews or other activities.
- What does MTuWRFr1SatSun mean? Does that mean we are required to be online those days?
Online courses default to this day of the week combination in our academic records software. You will not be required to log in to your class everyday, but it couldn’t hurt.
- When you complete a Dallas TeleCollege course, which DCCCD College will be on the transcript?
Your college transcript could show any one of our DCCCD accredited colleges. It depends on the home campus of your instructor.
- How do I know if I’ll make a good online learner?
Visit our homepage and challenge yourself with the free, interactive READI Assessment to see if distance learning is right for you.
- What different types of courses are offered?
Dallas TeleCollege offers online classes that could include various multimedia components, such as video/audio streaming, CDs or DVDs.
- How do you attend “orientation” for an online course?
The orientation is presented in an online format as part of the course. That way, you can always go back and review the information when you need to.
- Can you earn an Associate of Arts degree program completely online?
Yes, we offer all of the courses online to complete the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science as well as several online certificate programs. Please visit our website or contact an advisor for an up to date list. Here’s the link:
http://dallastelecollege.dcccd.edu.
- What will I need to be an online student?
You will need reliable access to the internet and an email address. If you do not have an email account, we can provide one for you. Some classes also require extra course materials such as DVDs, CDs or may even offer podcasts.
- How will I talk to my instructor?
You will communicate with the instructor using email, online discussion forums and, if needed, by telephone.
- Is a DL (distance learning) course easier?
Academically, online courses offer the same amount of material and have the same measured learning outcomes as their on campus counterparts. For some people, an online course may be easier because of their learning style. Test your DL skills by taking our online “Is Distance Learning Right for Me” assessment.
- How much does an online course cost?
For Dallas County and Texas residents, online courses cost the same as any other course with the same number of credit hours. Some Dl fees are required for out of state students. The DCCCD offers the lowest tuition in the State of Texas.
- What If I need help or guidance along the way?
Our team of trained and dedicated academic advisors is available by email and phone to help guide your way through the college process. If you are at a point where a face to face meeting is best, that can also be arranged by calling
972-669-6400.
- How do I get my books?
You can review the textbook list on our website. However, before you buy your books contact your instructor and read your class syllabus for information on books and other required course materials. Our homepage features a link to Dallas TeleCollege’s online book store.
- Are there minimum requirements for my computer?
